Why Chikungunya Is Spreading in China Now?

Until recently, China had very few reported cases of Chikungunya. But climate shifts, increased travel, and the rapid urbanization in southern regions have created the perfect environment for Aedes mosquitoes to thrive.

Add in the monsoon season and warm temperatures, and the risk of mosquito-borne diseases like Chikungunya increases significantly. Chinese health officials say that travelers from Southeast Asia might have unintentionally brought the virus, which then began to spread locally.
